Air Conditioner

How to Install an Air Conditioner: A Step-by-Step Guide

In the Summer season air conditioners are an essential thing which gives everyone comfort but its installation is a technical thing which demands proper guidance and the help of an expert. In this article we will discuss the process of installation of indoor and outdoor air conditioners.

Step 1: Pick the Proper Site

Indoor Unit

The location of the indoor unit should be:

  • Eight feet or more above the ground.
  • On a solid wall strong enough to bear its weight.
  • Keep away from hot rays and direct sunshine.
  • In an area that allows air to circulate throughout the space.

Outdoor Unit

The compressor for outdoor use should be:

  • Positioned on a solid, flat surface.
  • Place it in a shaded area.
  • Keep it away at least 13 inches from the wall.
  • Keep away from areas that are warm or dusty.

Step 2: Fix the Indoor Unit in Position

Put the mounting plate in place

Locate wall studs with a stud detector. Make sure that the fixing plate is level and attach it using screws. The indoor unit will be firmly held in place by this plate.

Create a Piping Hole by Drilling It

To fit different parts, drill a hole in the wall. To enable water drainage, make sure the hole is angled slightly lower toward the outside of the house.

Get the wiring and piping ready

  • Pass the disposal pipe, power cable and copper refrigerant lines through the opening.
  • Make sure they are long enough to connect to the outdoor unit and fix them using the glue.
  • To stop the process of condensation, wrap copper pipes in insulation.

Install the indoor unit

Carefully connect the indoor unit with the installation plate after lifting it. Make sure the cables and pipes are not pressed when you put it into position.

Step 3:Installing the outdoor unit

Select the Surface

Make use of a concrete base if placed on the ground. Use solid brackets that can handle the weight and vibration of the compressor when putting it on the wall.

Set the Outdoor Unit in Place

Place the device on the brackets or place it on the pad. Make sure that the ventilation around it is enough.

Attach the lines of refrigerant.

  • From the indoor unit, carefully bend and connect the copper tubing.
  • A bit of wrench can be used to attach the rounded ends to the appropriate valves on the outside unit. Avoid being too tight.
  • Leaks can be avoided by making sure the connections are tight and clean.

Attach the Wiring

Connect the wiring with indoor and outdoor according to the guidance book which is provided with the system. Dont forget to power off the electricity before working with wires attached.

Attach the drainage Pipe

To enable free drainage of the process of condensation, make sure the drain pipe is pointed downward. Stay clear of high bends since these may result in blockages.

Step 4: Remove All Moisture and Air

Utilize a Vacuum Pump

Attach the vacuum pump to the outdoor unit’s main socket. Run it for 15 to 30 minutes until the vacuum pressure reaches 500 millimeters.

Shut Off the Valves

Close the valve after the process of sucking is finished to stop air from getting into the system. In this stage, the lines are cleared of any wet material or non-condensable gasses.

Step 5: Complete Verifications and Turn on

Look for any leaks

To find out if there is any leak you can wash it with water. If there appears to be any bubble then it means there is leakage.

Keep everything safe and sealed

  • To seal the wall opening use tape.
  • Fix the pipe by the help of ropes on the wall.

Activate the Power

Turn the circuit breaker back on. To test the system, use the remote control.

Check the system

Set the unit to cooling mode after turning it on. Make that the outside unit fan is operating and that cool air is coming from the indoor unit.

Step 6: Ending Information

  • Clean the area where you work.
  • Make your outdoors safe from dirt.

After-installation Maintenance Advice

After installation, regular service will keep your air conditioner operating best

  • Each month, clean the air filter or replace it.
  • Make sure there is no dirt on the outdoor unit.
  • Every year, check for leaks of refrigerant.

Conclusion

In the end, I would like to say that to install an air conditioner is a very tricky thing that can be done by any expert or if you want to install it by yourself, you have to follow step by step guidance which is provided with the system.
